Why is close reading important? Why can’t I just skim through a book to get the plot basics?
If you skim through Wuthering Heights you’ll miss the bit where Heathcliff kills a puppy just to make a point and drive your tutor to an early grave by going on about how Heathcliff would make a great boyfriend. 🙂
PS No puppies were harmed in the writing of this post and Bronte liked dogs – it’s fiction.
